Subject:  Libraries in Saigon, Post Peace Accords

I remember the USIA library at the Vietnamese-American Association.  I was there a few times when I was working in Saigon.  I think that might have been Homer Smith.  Louise Letendre was the Army librarian who was there post-1973.  I think she must have been detached from DA and assigned to DAO.  She and I have laid wreaths at the Wall for both Special Services and for Saigon Mission Association.

Ann, After the Peace Accords in early 1973, there were still some American libraries in Saigon.  I think one was maintained by the United States Information Service and may have been housed at the Vietnamese-American Association compound.  USIS might also have had a library at their main compound. There was also a small library on the first floor of the Defense Attache Office, the former MACV Headquarters.  Sometime in 1974, I was in that library when the Defense Attache, (either General John Murray or his replacement, General Homer Smith), came in escorting another officer, showing him around the building.  I believe the other officer was a former POW, possibly Robinson Risner. I can't recall right now whether the libraries were being staffed by Americans, Local Nationals, or Third Country Nationals.  If I find information on that, I will let you know.
